Spectralock Pro Premium
Laticrete Spectralock Pro is the industry benchmark for epoxy grout — used in the most demanding residential and commercial projects worldwide.
Spectralock Pro Premium is a two-part epoxy grout that cures into a non-porous, stain-proof surface. Unlike cement grout, it doesn't absorb liquids, won't discolor over time, and never needs maintenance sealing — which makes the higher upfront cost cost-effective over the life of the installation.
Professionals use it for commercial kitchens, food processing floors, hospital corridors, pool surrounds, and any residential shower where long-term performance matters more than initial savings.

Contractor Tips
Field-tested advice from tile setters who use Laticrete products daily on residential and commercial projects.
Laticrete PermaColor Select handles most residential floors, backsplashes, and dry wall tile perfectly well. Reserve Spectralock Pro for showers, steam rooms, and any area where grout staining will be a long-term maintenance problem.
Spectralock is a two-part epoxy. Partial mixing causes soft spots, color variation, and curing failures. Mix the full kit thoroughly before applying. Plan your work area to use complete kits — don't try to save partial mixes for later.
Laticrete PermaColor cures faster in warm weather and slower in cold. Below 50°F (10°C), curing slows significantly and grout may become weak. Above 90°F (32°C), it sets too fast. Ideal install temperature is 65–75°F.
When a contractor needs a floor re-opened in under 4 hours, PermaColor Rapid is the answer. It achieves the same final performance as standard PermaColor Select but reaches light traffic capability in just 2 hours — critical for retail, hospitality, and healthcare projects.
Like all cement grouts, PermaColor color can vary slightly between production lots. For projects over 200 sq ft, check that all bags share the same lot number. Buy the full quantity needed plus one extra bag at the start — don't rely on reordering matching lots later.
In-Depth Guide
Our calculator uses the tile industry standard formula to compute grout joint volume per square foot, then converts that volume to pounds using the grout's density. For Laticrete PermaColor Select Sanded, the density is approximately 108 lbs per cubic foot — slightly different from Mapei Keracolor due to formulation differences.
The key inputs are tile width and height (which determine perimeter-to-area ratio), joint width, and tile thickness (which sets grout depth). A 24×24 large-format tile creates far less joint per square foot than a 2" hex mosaic — so the same 25 lb bag of PermaColor can cover anywhere from 8 to 230+ sq ft depending on your tile.
For Spectralock Pro epoxy, the calculation works differently because epoxy is sold by volume rather than weight. Our calculator estimates the number of standard Spectralock Part A + Part B kits based on joint volume.
Laticrete publishes official coverage data in their product Technical Data Sheets (TDS). Our calculator uses the same underlying formula but presents results in an interactive, easy-to-use format with waste factor, cost estimation, and product-specific tips. For commercial projects, always verify against Laticrete's official TDS and consult a licensed tile contractor.
Laticrete PermaColor Select is a polymer-modified grout — it contains latex polymers that improve flexibility, stain resistance, and color consistency compared to basic Portland cement grouts. This slightly affects coverage: PermaColor is denser than generic grout, meaning slightly more pounds per bag but more consistent results.
Key advantages over standard cement grout:
The decision comes down to long-term maintenance vs. upfront cost. PermaColor is easier to install and costs $18–25 per bag but needs sealing every 1–2 years. Spectralock costs more upfront ($35–55 per kit) and requires more skill to install, but never needs sealing and won't stain — ever. Over a 10-year period, Spectralock is often the more economical choice in high-use areas.
